If your vehicle has Big Horn Sheep license plates, you must replace them with the Sunset design or with specialty plates. No other plate design is affected.

Autos/Large Trailers

Big Horn Sheep Plate

All plates with the Big Horn Sheep background were replaced by the Sunset design in 2001 and 2002. 

Sunset Plate

Motorcycles/Small Trailers

Motorcycle/Small Trailer White Plate

The Sunset design was introduced in 2005. Replacement of existing plates is not required.

Specialty Plates

Blue plates 
and any plate with a white or custom background
were not replaced.

As of January 1, 2003, it is illegal to display any license plate with the Big Horn Sheep background on a vehicle operated on public roadways. 

Motorists who display Big Horn Sheep plates are subject to a citation for Fictitious Plates. If you are cited, please visit a DMV Full Service Office immediately to receive new plates. A registration renewal is not required unless it is otherwise due. Fees total $6 plus any specialty plate fees.

If your registration is expired and you do not have Sunset plates, please renew in person at a DMV Full Service Office. Obtain an Emissions Inspection if required.
