Police To Have Instant Access to Sex Offender, Protective Order Records
The Nevada Highway Patrol's Criminal Justice Information System is going through a
complete upgrade which will greatly benefit the police officer on the street. System
Administrator Dennis DeBacco is touring the state this week to introduce the new system to
police, courts, district attorneys, corrections officers and other agencies who need
access to criminal records.
Once the new computer system comes online, police on the street will have much quicker access to the records already online including wants, warrants, convictions and DMV drivers license and registration records.
Several new types of records and other capabilities are being added at the same time. These include an online Sex Offender Registry and instant access to the details of Domestic Violence Protective Orders. The state Parole and Probation Division is heavily involved as well. Police will have instant access to those records, and the system will also notify Parole and Probation of an offender's arrest.
