DIRECTOR DEMONSTRATES KIOSKS JUNE 22 IN RENO

The media is invited to a demonstration of the new cash accepting self-serve kiosks in northern Nevada Tuesday, June 22, 10 a.m. at the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles office in Reno. Director Ginny Lewis will demonstrate the machine and be available for interviews. The Reno office is located at 305 Galletti Way at the corner of Keitzke and Galletti.

The kiosks are like no other in the nation. They not only accept cash and credit/debit cards, they immediately dispense the renewal decal and registration form. Virginia and Indiana have similar kiosk programs but Virginia’s doesn’t dispense decals and neither takes cash.

The initial pilot program to test the technology was successfully implemented at the department’s W. Carey office in North Las Vegas and completed last April. The department began installing and additional eight kiosks in major southern Nevada offices in early May and five in northern Nevada in early June.

The DMV’s statistics for May show that the nine machines in southern Nevada handled 2,062 cash transactions and 1,342 credit card transactions with 794 transactions in Spanish. With the two kiosks recently installed at the Reno office, there are now five kiosks in the Truckee Meadows and 14 kiosks statewide.
