NEWS
FROM: Directors Office
Nevada motorists having problems collecting from National Warranty Insurance Company (NWIC) for auto repairs can file a complaint with the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles’ Compliance Enforcement Division. The division regulates auto dealerships in Nevada and NWIC sells “Smart Choice” car warranties through auto dealerships in Nevada.
NWIC, a Nebraska risk retention group domiciled in the Cayman Islands, was recently ordered by the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands into “provisional liquidation,” a status similar to Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the U.S.
Consumers in the Las Vegas/Southern Region area can call the DMV at 702-486-8626. Those in the Carson/Reno/Northern Region can call 775-684-3562.
Only motorists who have an unpaid NWIC warranty claim for auto repairs should call the DMV. The department will investigate the claim and, when appropriate, guide the motorist through a hearing process for a claim against the dealer’s bond.
