FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 6, 2002
NEWS FROM: Director’s Office 02-009
Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles
(DMV) travel teams from the Elko office will be serving Wendover motorists on a
new schedule beginning July 17. Driver
license issues and renewals will be available at the Wendover Branch Library,
590 Camper Dr., the third Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m. and the third Thursday
from 9 to 3:30 p.m. each month except March, June, September and December.
The switch to digitized driver
licenses last month prompted the DMV to reevaluate the effectiveness of its
travel teams.
“The benefits to digitized
licenses are overwhelming,” DMV Director Ginny Lewis, said.
“The problem is some of the equipment isn’t portable.
The solution is to establish criteria that provides the best services to
our customers, whether it’s at a fixed office or a travel site.”
According to Lewis, many motorists
don’t have to go face-to-face with a DMV technician in order to renew their
driver licenses.
“If the driver license renewal
notice we sent you has an access code,” Lewis said, “you can renew your
license in the comfort of your home by mail, by calling 877-DMV-7828 or by
logging on to www.dmvnv.com.”
